About
Kim founded Greener Lavelle in 2003 and has since become a leading figure in outdoor arts across the Tees Valley. With more than 20 years' experience in community carnival arts, she has built lasting partnerships with local authorities, schools, heritage organisations and businesses, creating ambitious projects that bring people together through creativity. A graduate of Cleveland College of Art and Design, Kim works from her Hartlepool studio across theatre, dance, museums, heritage, television, film and public events. Her career includes designing Captain Cook-themed costumes for Australia's 1770 Festival Parade, creating educational costumes for museums nationwide, mentoring emerging costume makers, and contributing to productions including Smoggie Queens (BBC/Hat Trick Productions), Tom Jones and Phoenix Nights Comic Relief. Kim's recognised for creating large-scale puppets, lanterns and parade artworks for festivals including Stockton International Riverside Festival, Tall Ships, Middlesbrough Mela and National Trust. Alongside this, she is committed to nurturing new talent through university talks, mentoring, work placements and creative opportunities for emerging artists. Following Arts Council England, Developing Your Creative Practice funding, Kim has continued to develop her own work. She has presented four solo illustration exhibitions and created award nominated animations screened at international film festivals based in the North East of England. She has also created an original dance work for Durham Fringe Festival and delivered a TEDx Teesside talk exploring life as an autistic freelance artist. Outside of commissions, Kim’s more personal artistic practice has a distinctive sepia palette and textural approach that make us feel that we her work was excavated from a lost library. Kim's narratives emerge from character and place, often inspired by her experiences of Pareidolia, rather than forming a traditional linear plot. Through Kim's work the viewer is enveloped in her beautiful other-worlds that ask us to shift our senses and perspectives
